About Matthew Simmons
A decorated United States Navy petty officer who served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Matthew (Matt) Simmons founded Frazier Park, California-based Wolves and Warriors in 2010. Combining his dual passions for military veterans and wolves, Matthew Simmons entered the animal rescue shelter industry as an animal handler; as such, he demonstrated effective planning and leadership skills during dynamic animal rescue operations.
Among his accomplishments, Matt Simmons led efforts to close an illegal petting zoo and fur farm in Minnesota, which required coordinating military veterans, veterinary professionals, a legal team, and law enforcement. Moreover, he helped locate new homes for the dozens of illegally trafficked foxes and wolves and procure the necessary documentation to support a lawsuit in federal court. The lawsuit resulted in adding a federal law protecting wolves that have been bred in captivity as part of the Endangered Species Act. He has also assisted in rescuing 96 wolfdogs from an illegal breeder in Jamul, California.
In addition to managing Wolves and Warriors in Frazier Park, Mr. Simmons oversees the Predator Healing Project, a Kalispell, Montana-based rehabilitation initiative for apex predators such as wolves and military veterans who, via pairing in WolfGuard teams, develop trust in one another and heal from their trauma.
